Charles became the Executive Director at TransAfrica Ventures, a company involved in private equity investments in a broad range of industries in Southern Africa, in February 2010. Before joining Wesizwe Platinum, he was the Managing Director of Metallon Armenia (Eastern Europe) in 2006. In 2005, he was the Group Manager -Mining at Metallon Gold.

In 2004 to June 2005 he worked as an Associate Analyst - Project Finance (Mining & Minerals) at Rand Merchant Bank where he did technical and financial risk analysis of mining and mineral projects worldwide.

He also worked as Senior Projects Mining Engineer at Sandvik Mining and Construction, South Africa from 2000 to 2003. He was also Monitoring and evaluation specialist at the Ministry of science, technology and vocational training in Lusaka from 2001 to 2002. He designed the monitoring and evaluation system for the World Bank sponsored skills development program within one year. He also worked at the Ministry of Finance and National Planning as Economist, Planner and Demographer from 1994 to 2001.

Dr. Mijere taught at the University of Zambia from 1985-90, before moving to take a post as senior lecturer at the University of Transkei in South Africa. In 1994 he was promoted to Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology. This university is located in the poor rural area of Eastern Cape Province. In 2000 the government tried to close the University, but organizing and lobbying by a number of constituencies created enough political pressure for the government to reverse their decision. The university has now merged with another institution and as of January 1, 2005, is known as Water Sisulu University of Science and Technology.
